Course: HOW ARE BENDER BOARDS INSTALLED & MULCH POURED? Process - Mulch & Bender Board Installation Discover our step by step guide on how we bring your Landscape projects to life. Unless otherwise stated in your contract, all installations pertaining to Mulch & Bender Boards are performed in the exact outlined method! Bender Board Installation Phase 1: Marking, Digging, & laying Bender Board The initial stage of installing bender boards involves laying out the space that you are separating with the new edging and placing the bender board into the small trench to the elevated exposed height desired. Typically we recommend a 1-2" above ground rise exposed. Phase 2: Digging Stake Inserts Next digging is done every 3 feet on center approx. for each stake to be put in for the final step and to secure the bender boards properly. We will either hand dig or use a drill bit for this step depending on the soil conditions. Phase 3: Stake Installation & Final Forming Lastly stakes are put in with proper outdoor screws to secure the stake to the side of the bender board. Typically these stakes are approx. 12" deep and they play a critical role in ensuring a long lasting look and form to the newly placed bender boards and depending on the soil conditions more or less are needed as required. Mulch Installation Mulch Installation To install mulch for landscaping, start by preparing area where the mulch will be applied. Clear away any weeds, debris, or old mulch to ensure a clean surface. Next, if necessary, edge (SEE ABOVE) the garden beds to create a defined boundary. Spread a of landscaping fabric over the soil to prevent weed growth while allowing water to flow through (OPTIONAL, Fabric is not always required or needed. however for rubber mulch we will always install geo fabric). Then, evenly distribute the mulch, typically 2-4 inches deep, around plants and trees, making sure to leave a small gap around the base of each plant to prevent rot. Finally, gently water the mulch to help settle it and enhance moisture retention. 2 Studio Our Official Studio will guide you through all options we carry within the selected category to expertly guide you in your decision making process! Studio Display: Our Collection of Mulch & Bender Boards! Let's Pick Out Your Landscape Material! Mulch Selection We provide 2 mulch options; Natural & Rubber Mulch. Natural mulch is made from organic materials such as wood chips, shredded leaves, or straw. It decomposes over time, enriching the soil and improving its structure while providing insulation and moisture retention for plants. In contrast, rubber mulch is made from recycled rubber materials, such as tires. Although more expensive It does not decompose, providing long-lasting ground cover that helps control weeds and retain moisture, but it does not contribute nutrients to the soil. Natural Mulch Brown Mulch Red Mulch Black Mulch Rubber Mulch Brown Rubber Mulch Red Rubber Mulch Black Rubber Mulch Bender Boards Composite bender boards are made from recycled materials, offering a flexible and eco-friendly option for landscape edging. They are lightweight, resistant to rot, and can easily bend to create smooth curves in garden beds. In contrast, metal bender boards, typically made from aluminum or steel, provide a more durable and long-lasting solution. While they can be more rigid and may require more effort to install and therefore are more expensive, metal boards create a sleek, modern look and are less susceptible to damage from heavy foot traffic or weather conditions. Design Build 1 School Our official "How It's Done" section to help educate our clients to understand our industry leading installation process! Course: HOW ARE CUSTOM & PRE-FAB/KITS FIREPITS INSTALLED? Process - Firepit Installation Process Discover our step by step guide on how we bring your Outdoor projects to life. Unless otherwise stated in your contract, all installations pertaining to Pre-fab/Kits & Custom Firepits are performed in the exact outlined method! Let's Learn About Our 3 Options 1. Custom Firepits ($$$) Custom firepits, on the other hand, are designed and built to the homeowner's specific preferences and needs. They offer greater creative control over size, shape, materials, and features. Custom firepits can be seamlessly integrated into the landscape design, incorporating elements like built-in seating, stonework, and unique finishes. While custom firepits generally require a larger investment and longer lead time, they provide a truly unique and personalized focal point for the outdoor living space. Quick Comparison Pros: - Better design cohesion with the rest of the landscape due to ability to customize firepit to match surroundings and add lighting etc... - Better flexibility of dimensions allowing firepit to match your needs. - Warranty coverage by Sanctuary Care. Cons: - Higher cost compared to prefabricated counterparts. - Longer installation & lead time compared to prefabricated firepits. 2. Firepit Kits ($$) Firepit kits offer a compelling middle ground between fully custom and prefabricated options. They provide the core components like fire-rated blocks and coping (and often metal inserts for the center), allowing for easier and faster assembly than custom firepits. While kits may offer less design flexibility than a fully custom build, they provide more options that match existing aesthetics if the kit uses a material that is used elsewhere in the landscape. Kits strike a balance between convenience and personalization. Quick Comparison Pros: - More affordable than custom firepits. - Faster installation than custom firepits. - Warranty Coverage by Sanctuary Care. - Long lasting materials. Cons: - Limited flexibility of sizes, styles, and materials. Although the materials allow easy matching to market hardscapes they are hard to match otherwise. - Maximum height per manufacturer specs. - Less modern options available. 3. Prefabricated Firepits ($) Prefabricated firepits are mass-produced and readily available at home improvement stores and online retailers. They offer convenience and affordability, coming in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials, such as steel, cast iron, and concrete. Prefabricated firepits are typically easier and quicker to install, often requiring minimal assembly. However, they may offer limited design flexibility and customization options. Quick Comparison Pros: - Affordable cost due to mass produced materials & pre-assembly along with easier installation. - Quick installation and turn-around. Cons: - Limited flexibility of sizes, styles, and materials. - Warranty is limited to the manufacturer warranty offered. - Typically shorter lifespan of materials and firepit in general. How Are The 3 Options Installed? Option 1: Custom Firepit Options Phase 1: Foundation & Base The ideal location for the fire pit is carefully selected, considering factors like level ground, proximity to the home/gas line, and prevailing winds. The area is excavated, and a sturdy concrete footing is constructed, extending beyond the fire pit's perimeter (typically per code 1/2 times the height of the firepit) to ensure a stable and long-lasting foundation. Phase 2: Building the Walls CMU blocks are meticulously laid to create the desired shape and height of your fire pit. Precision and expertise are employed to ensure the walls are level, plumb, and structurally sound. For added strength and stability, the structure is reinforced with steel rebar, particularly for taller fire pits, guaranteeing a safe and durable fire pit for years to come. CMU blocks are grouted and sealed after 24" rebar is installed as needed. Phase 3: Finishing Touches A chosen finish is applied to the exterior of the fire pit. This could include a smooth plaster finish, a vibrant paint color , or a natural stone veneer to seamlessly integrate with your existing landscape. A wall cap is installed to top off the fire pit, providing a clean, finished look and protecting the gas insert. By standard this process involves a gas firepit. You will find our School & Studio on: Wall Finishes Here Wall Caps Here Option 2: Firepit Kits Phase 1: Foundation & Base The ideal location for the fire pit is carefully selected, considering factors like level ground, proximity to the home/gas line, and prevailing winds. The area is excavated, and a sturdy concrete footing is constructed, extending beyond the fire pit's perimeter (typically per code 1/2 times the height of the firepit) to ensure a stable and long-lasting foundation. Phase 2: Building the Firepit A Stone firepit kit is selected and professionally installed and stacked. This creates a stunning and structurally sound fire pit that will enhance your outdoor living space and come at a lower cost than a fully custom firepit with finishes such as Method 1 . A gas fire pit insert is seamlessly incorporated and connected to a gas line for a hassle-free fire experience. A wall cap matching the stacking stones you have chosen is used to finish the top of the wall off properly as chosen. Option 3: Prefabricated Firepits Phase 1: Preparation & Installation A suitable location is selected, taking into account factors such as level ground, proximity to seating areas, and safe distances from structures and flammable materials. The area is cleared and leveled to provide a stable foundation for the fire pit. The prefabricated fire pit is positioned and assembled according to the manufacturer's instructions. For gas fire pits, a qualified technician connects the unit to the existing gas line, ensuring a safe and efficient installation. Phase 2: Finishing Touches If included in the prefabricated package, decorative elements such as lava rocks or fire glass are added to enhance the fire pit's appearance. If additionally included in the prefabricated package; Safety screens or covers may be installed to protect against accidental contact with the flames or embers.
